From the Rejection Collections

The Rejection Collections (vol. 1 – Cartoons You Never Saw, and Never Will See, in the New Yorker and vol. 2 – The Cream of the Crap) have many cartoons that rival anything the New Yorker found fit to publish. It’s obvious why some of the entries were rejected, while many serve to illustrate the particularly finicky approach of the New Yorker… which has its strength and weaknesses.

This is my favorite of both books—I don’t know why, exactly, except the spirit so aptly represents most of my days:

There’s almost nothing better than a sly dog cartoon:

Or a bit of devilishness:

What fun collections! Shows again maybe the power of abundance of information (loosely connected to cartoons). Is that bottom one by Martin Weller?

Thanks for waving the dog flag.

  2. Jared Stein says:

    These are great.

  3. Chris says:

The last one is by P. S. Mueller. The middle is by Harry Bliss. And the first by Zach Kanin…
